Introduction
RPH
Adelaide Incorporated is a not-for-profit, disability service provider
delivering a reading and information service to the print handicapped
via radio 1197am RPH Adelaide.
It is estimated that 18.4% of South Australians
have a print
disability (292,000 people), 1197am RPH Adelaide
plays a vital role in meeting
their information needs.
Among this group are people with severe vision
loss,
those who understand spoken English but cannot read it easily,
people with learning difficulties, and those
with physical disabilities
such as arthritis.

within its
broadcast area who are unable (for whatever reason)
to access daily
printed material'.

Program Selection
1197am RPH Adelaide programs are designed to provide
South Australia's print handicapped population with the
same
access to information that the rest of
the population takes for granted.
With
a broadcast area that covers the vast majority of
South Australia's population, 1197am RPH Adelaide's
listeners rely on
the service for readings from daily newspapers,
weekly magazines and a
selection of disability specific programs.

RPH Adelaide Incorporated
relies heavily on the assistance of over
180 dedicated volunteers who
give freely of their time.
We'd be lost without them!
Each week, volunteer readers, panel
operators, editors and presenters
donate over 450 hours to prepare and
present the
variety of programs heard on 1197am RPH Adelaide.
Volunteers range in age from 17 years to
87 years; from university students
and home makers to retired teachers
and doctors.
